Leo Marriott, Manager of Air Traffic Services at Filton, retired in April after a career spanning 47 years.

Leo Marriott, Manager of Air Traffic Services at Filton, retired in April afer a career spanning 47 years.

Leo started in ATC with the Ministry of Aviation in 1963.  He became a controller at Southampton Airport in 1967, then moved to Lydd/Ashford Airport before joining the ATC team at Newcastle in 1975.  He remained at Newcastle for over 20 years, becoming Senior Supervisor and finishing his time as Acting Manager.

In 1996 Leo moved on to ATC instruction and examination, eventually becoming Head of Training at Bailbrook College near Bath.  Then for 3 years he was Head of Operations and Training (UK ATC) for Shearwater Aerospace.

Leo returned to operational controlling 2004.  After a short spell as Senior Controller at Swansea Airport, Leo moved to Filton in 2005.  He became ATC Manager in 2007.

Outside of work Leo has had over thirty books published, mainly on naval and aviation subjects.  In addition to being a keen sailor and a qualified private pilot, he is also a pretty good artist.  A quiet retirement seems unlikely!

Leo will be sorely missed by all his team at Filton.
